The Highpoint of Worship

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, July 15, 2023

Today’s Text: John 4:16-38

Key Verses: John 4:34 (ESV): “Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.”

She was a nameless sinner — she came with no trajectory of success, grace or faith; yet she had a rare encounter with Jesus! What has happened to worship today? Why are so many left behind? O how we may have drifted from something crucial to true worship! Watch Jesus by this well, every opportunity was an avenue of genuine worship experience; and it does not have to be a gathering of extraordinary saints. To Him, it is an open opportunity to ordinary people: a place or an experience where or when people that are lost, broken, utterly despised, having no claim on God, or knowledge of Him can come and find hope. That’s what Jesus feeds on. That’s His food.

He was hungry and His disciples went scouting for material food; but He found an outcast—a woman looked down upon by her own people. At the time, only outcast walk alone. Drawing water and chatting at the well was a social highpoint for women. They always walked in group to the well. No one would would walk with her. But she’s Jesus delight—meeting her was better than food. Never will she have to walk alone. She now has a better water to draw from eternally. Yes, to some, she was ostracized and marked. To others, immoral and outcast; but for Jesus, she stands there as an evidence of an accomplished work. O that we learn that some of those we would put down and push back are highpoints of divine target and worship.

Quote for the Day: “A truly spiritual encounter brings fractured peopled before the Savior, and sends them forth redeemed and commissioned!” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me not to be blinded to the hidden blessing in the thirst souls all around me. Give me the genuine spiritual humility to find, then and the sufficient godly wisdom to win them. Break the siege of my arrogance and draw me in to thirst for the  things and men that matter to You—in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
