Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, January 22, 2023
Today’s Text: Hebrews 13: 1-6
Key Verse: Hebrews 13:5 (NRSV): “Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”

Part of why people hurt themselves and slip into depression is because we find it hard to trust God for our lives. That, according to this scripture is the reason we are dragged into unnecessary eagerness for money and materials. This scripture assures us that God has spoken concerning looking after us to the very minute part of our being — from our hair to our feet soles. The King James’s version renders the “for he has said,” as “He, Himself hath said.” Meaning that this Scripture promise is believed to have been directly spoken by God with the emphasis on “He Himself.” What consolation could be greater?! For God Himself to assure us “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
Unfortunately, as humans, we find it so hard to separate ourselves from the adamic nature of self-gratification that inflate us so easily to self destruction. We can careless of what God says despite the spiritually and physically risk of cares snd worries. We carry needles burdens, and suffer avoidable heart aches or attacks. Our life vest or seat belt of life loosens when we try to hook or buckle it down with things should rather trim away. Self control is a key part of our spiritual fruit. The apostle told us how he disciplined his body and kept it under control, lest after preaching to others he himself should be disqualified (1 Corinthians 9:27). As we unwind this weekend and get ready for the upcoming week, let us embrace contentment, shun worldly passions, and live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives. Don’t be that believer, who though is never forsaken by God yet is never satisfied.
Quote for the Day: “The covetous soul is anyone with unwholesome unbridled or over anxious desire for things he does not have or is not given.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, whenever I feel restless in my spirit for things I desire, or agitated about. Please teach me contentment even when it does not come easy. Give me the freedom to be content and live righteously in this age.— in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
