Thoughts of the Foolish

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, September 8, 2022

Today’s Text: Psalm 49:1-20

Key Verse: Psalm 49:13 (ESV): “This is the path of those who have foolish confidence; yet after them people approve of their boasts.”

At the beginning of the year 2022, God spoke to us that a major monarch was going to die in the year; but certainly nobody would think that this would be Queen Elizabeth II, the celebrated beacon of stability of the United Kingdom through seven decades of tumultuous politics. No doubt, the Queen’s sudden demise, would be a watershed moment for friends, family, Britain and entire world. The loss may be incomparable and incalculable. However, the word of the Lord reminds us of the common end of all men — both lie and great, rich and poor. It was only yesterday that we explored the central them if this text in a diversion of thoughts emanating from 1Peter 5.

As we stand with Britain and the rest of the world in this irreversible loss, God wants us to learn that no man can redeem his life of that of another or give God a ransom for the soul. No payment is ever enough for the ransom for a life. Death is a common end of all, and when it comes, no man can twist its hands. No one lives on forever. Therefore , it on foolish men and women that place their trust in power and possession. Through this psalm, the sons of Korah connect with with the greatest moral wisdom or religious philosophy of ancient Israel, which modern people must be reminded of. It is a mark great folly to be deceived into placing out thoughts in material things. If you are blessed, rich and famous today; never let yourself be flattered to falter to a self-destruction. When they praise you, don’t let your heart puff. Never become oppressed by the prosperity of the wicked, or obsessed with boasting about personal riches. Only the foolish dwell on blessings rather than the blesser; creatures rather than the creator.

Quote for the Day: “It is infatuation and flattery to trust in prosperity and hope in perpetuity.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to put my trust in you rather than things. Help me to love and seek you more than materials. Fill my heart with wisdom to guide and direct my steps each day — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
