To Whom Shall We Go?

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Monday, July 14, 2025

Today's Text: John 6:60-71

Key Verse: John 6:68 (KJV): "Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.’”

In a pivotal moment in Jesus' ministry, after His discourse on the Bread of Life (John 6:25-59), many of his disciples found his teachings challenging to accept and deserted Him. Truthfully speaking, the message of the cross can be challenging for many to accept, as it requires humility, self-denial, and a willingness to surrender to God's plan. And, not many, you'd agree, is willing to break from fleshly cravings. In 1 Corinthians 1:18-25, the Apostle Paul writes about the paradox of the cross, where the wisdom of the world sees it as foolishness. Only those who are saved see it as sacrifice, redemption, and the transformative power of God's love.

So, in today's passage, Jesus addresses the Twelve, asking if they will also leave Him. Peter's response has therefore become a challenge to us as well today. We must reflect on what out confession would be to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ should we be asked the same question. Are we going to affirm our faith and loyalty, or are we also going to turn our back on Him? This meditation offers us an uncommon moment of reflection on our faith, discipleship, and our understanding of the cost of following Jesus. The kingdom of God is not meet and drink. O yes, our Lord cared for all categories of people's physical needs, but their sins, souls and eternity is more important to Him.

"Lord, to whom shall we go?" is Peter's recognition that Jesus alone has eternal life and that there is no other source of true spiritual guidance or salvation beside Him. His teachings and ways may not be convenient for the flesh, but our trust in Him must superced our flesh. Like Peter, we must put our whole trust in Him as the Christ, the Son of the living God, beside whom we have no other place to go. We must declare our faith in Him, the ultimate source of truth and salvation. We can careless about other options because none other is comparable. Yes, we live in a world of plurality; with various philosophies and teachings, but our declaration is steadfast: "You alone has the word of eternal life."

Action Steps: Reflect on your confession, faith and loyalty to Jesus Christ. Affirm and declare your faith. Prioritize and recognize that spiritual needs are more important than physical needs. Put your whole trust in Jesus, even when His teachings and ways are challenging or inconvenient. Stand firm in your declaration of faith, despite the plurality of philosophies and teachings in the world. Renew your commitment to follow Jesus, even when it's costly or challenging.

Quote for the Day: "Just as a gardener's care helps a plant bloom, our care and compassion can help others flourish in their faith and well-being." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the opportunity to know You, the Only source of life and salvation. Help me to love You with all my heart. Help me to trust in You, to prioritize spiritual needs, and to declare my faith in You. Give me the courage to stand firm in my confession, even when it's challenging or costly — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
