Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13
Key Verses: 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NASB) — “But now faith, hope, and love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

Thank God it's Sunday, and it's also Valentine's Day. The coincidence comes with something in common already: they are days in which people celebrate love. Although people don't always think about Sunday, which is the Lord's day as such but we’d safe that discourse for another day. Our focus today will be on thoughts emanating from Saint Valentine's Day, which is being celebrated all over the world today simply as Valentine's Day. It was something that originated as a church holiday to honor a certain martyr of the faith by the name Valentinus. The tradition has gone through so much cultural, religious, social and commercial evolution and has been perverted to a sensual celebration of romantic love.
But the first valentine note was sent by a martyred lover who was first imprisoned for the sake of his lover. The practice of sending love notes to one’s lover grew during the Middle Ages and has continued till this day. Unfortunately, the meaning and celebrations has changed and lost its meaning today. It has been relegated to a day to shower lust instead of love. It no longer matter that we truly express love to those we hold close anymore as long as we get a gratification of lust. However, the word of God offers us great hope for reconstruction. The “but now” in our key verse offers us hope for a better conclusion. It is neither a temporal now nor a present now, but logical direction now that sets the tone for a matter. It is a “now” pointing us to the conclusion of the whole argument of Paul on the subject of love. Meaning that all said and done, even when the imperishable graces of faith, and hope are no longer needed in the next life;
True love is sacrificial; and the greatest sacrifice of love has been revealed in Jesus Christ. John 15:13 tells us that “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. Nothing greater is conceivable in the thought of love than Christ's sacrifice that brings us eternal life. As we celebrate love today, let us dwell upon what Christ’s love really was, and is, and what ours should also be. Then, it would be strange to us why anyone should loose sight of this true meaning and essence of love. There is no better way to celebrate and affirm love than in Christ and through Him alone..
Quote for the Day: ”Valentines Day leaves more people with feelings of loneliness because it leaves alone the true meaning of love..” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your love for me and the world. Please give me the virtue of real love, and help me to walk in it. Teach me to love with open-mind and be open to receiving love that is true, in Jesus name. Amen.
I wish you all a much glorious and true Valentine's Day with all my love and prayers,
