Waxing Stronger in Holiness
Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Saturday, January 10, 2026
Titus 2:11–12; 1 Peter 1:13–16 (ESV)
Key Verse: Titus 2:11–12 (ESV) — “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self‑controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.”
Holiness is not an outdated word; it is the fragrance of a life that truly belongs to God. In a year of waxing very strong, strength without holiness becomes corruption. To wax stronger in holiness is not to trust in your own willpower, but to submit to the training of grace. Grace does not only forgive; grace tutors, disciplines, and empowers you to say “no” to evil and “yes” to God. It is the self same grace that brings salvation that also trains us to live godly lives.
Holiness is therefore the natural outworking of grace in a yielded heart. God’s call to “be holy, for I am holy” is not a threat but an invitation to share His nature and reflect His character in a dark world. Waxing stronger in holiness this year means allowing God to touch not just what you do, but what you desire and what you tolerate. This begins in our minds. That's why Peter urges believers to prepare their minds for action and to be sober-minded, setting their hope fully on the grace to be brought at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
As your thoughts are renewed by the Word, your appetites and actions will follow. To wax stronger in holiness is to guard your mind gates — what you watch, listen to, imagine, and meditate on. Be ready to cooperate with grace in putting off old habits. There are patterns, entertainments, and associations that quietly weaken your walk with God. This year, holiness will require practical decisions: deleting certain contacts, avoiding certain places, ending certain compromises. These are not legalistic rules; they are love responses to a God you do not want to grieve.
Be ready to walk in the fear of the Lord. The fear of God is not terror but deep reverence that hates what He hates and loves what He loves. When the fear of the Lord is strong, the pull of sin is weakened. Waxing stronger in holiness means cultivating a constant awareness of God’s presence and a desire to honor Him in secret and in public. When you stumble, be ready to rise quickly. Holiness is not perfection without weakness; it is sincerity without hypocrisy. When you fall and falter, you do not run from God; you run to Him in repentance and faith. The blood of Jesus cleanses, restores, and repositions you for a stronger walk. Waxing stronger in holiness means shorter gaps between conviction, confession, and correction.
Action Steps: Today, pause and ask: “Lord, what in my life is grieving Your heart or dulling my sensitivity?” Write down any sinful patterns, compromises, or environments the Spirit highlights. Confess them openly to God and receive cleansing. Then identify two or three practical boundaries that will protect your walk in holiness this year.
Quote for the Day: “Holiness is not a burden but a beauty. As you yield to grace, you will wax stronger in godly living and shine brighter for Jesus each day.” — (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Let Us Pray: Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for saving me by Your grace and calling me to share in Your holiness. Break every chain of sin and compromise in my life. Train my heart to love righteousness and to hate iniquity. Strengthen me to walk in purity of thought, speech, and action. Let my life this year reflect Your holy nature and draw others to Your light. In Your mighty name, Lord Jesus, Amen.
