Ephesians 3:14–19 (ESV)
Key Verse: Ephesians 3:17–18 (ESV) — “So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth.”
Love is the atmosphere of the kingdom and the true measure of spiritual strength. To wax very strong without waxing stronger in love is to miss the heart of God’s very nature and agenda. Power without love is harsh; knowledge without love is arrogance. But a life rooted and grounded in love always carries weight in heaven and on earth. This year, God is not only enlarging your capacity to receive His love; He is enlarging your capacity to release His love.
Paul prayed that believers would be strengthened with power in their inner being so that Christ would dwell richly in their hearts. That indwelling presence expresses itself most beautifully through love. Waxing stronger in love means allowing the Holy Spirit to stretch your heart beyond selfishness, beyond offense, and beyond convenience. Love is not mere sentiment; it is sacrifice, patience, and kindness in motion.
To be rooted and grounded in love is to make love your foundation, not your occasional reaction. Roots go deep and foundations carry weight. When love becomes your root, storms may blow but you will not be easily shaken. When love becomes your ground, you no longer relate to people by mood but by covenant. Waxing stronger in love will stabilize your relationships, refine your ministry, and beautify your witness for Christ.
Be ready to receive the revelation of Christ’s love for you personally. You cannot pour what you have not drunk. Paul prayed that believers would know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge. As you meditate on the cross, on God’s patience with you, and on His daily mercies, your heart will soften toward others. Those who remember how much they have been forgiven find it easier to forgive.
Be ready to love beyond comfort. Strong love shows up when it is most inconvenient. This year, God will give you opportunities to love difficult people, to bless those who misunderstand you, and to serve where you are not celebrated. Each of these moments is training ground for stronger love. When you choose to respond with grace instead of resentment, you are partnering with the Holy Spirit to enlarge your heart.
Be ready to let love guide your gifts. Spiritual gifts shine brightest when they are carried on the wings of love. Ministry without love becomes noisy and empty. As you preach, counsel, serve, give, or lead, let your driving motivation be the good of others and the glory of Christ. Waxing stronger in love will protect you from competition, comparison, and hidden agendas.
Action Steps: Today, pause and ask: “Lord, where is my love weak, shallow, or selective?” Write down at least three relationships or spaces (home, church, workplace) where you need to intentionally love deeper. Decide on one concrete act of love you will show today — a call, a message, an apology, a gift, or an act of service. Pray Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3:14–19 over your life daily this week.
Quote for the Day: “The true strength of a believer is not measured by how loudly he speaks, but by how deeply he loves. Wax strong in love, and you will look like Jesus.” — (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Let Us Pray: Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me with an everlasting love. Root and ground my heart in Your love until it becomes my nature to love like You. Heal every place in me where hurt, pride, or fear has weakened my love. Strengthen me to forgive freely, to serve joyfully, and to relate to others with Your compassion. Let my life this year become a living testimony of Your love in action. In Your mighty name, Lord Jesus, Amen.
