Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, November 29, 2021

Today’s Text: Proverbs 22:1-16

Key Verse: Proverbs 22:1 (ESV): “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.

Cultures differ from place to place, race to race, people to people and generation to generation; but one thing remains common to all peoples, races, ages and generations—the value of a name. Every age and race keeps a common, continued and consistent value for names as well as efforts to keep the integrity of their names. Names is more than a means of identification. Indeed, it is identity. Over the ages, it is great wisdom to preserve the name and ensure the quality and integrity of identity is maintained is by passing down wisdom to succeeding generations. All over the world, especially among the Jews and Africans, wisdom is taught through brief proverbial phrases.

For a couple of days, we shall embark a devotional (meditation) journey together through the terrains of whatever happens to the name. The Bible book of Proverbs is filled with enough wisdom guide, which the Holy Spirit will use as our spiritual Global Positioning System (GPS) or satellite navigator (SatNav). Proverbs teach us the value of names—good names—and how to achieve, sustain and preserve them for the next generation. This is big deal in this Bible book dedicated to teach us street wisdom because our identity matters to God. Journey with us as we meditate together on the art and act of choosing a good name rather than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold while not loosing riches (silver and gold) and honorable reputation (loving favor, i.e., respect).

Quote for the Day: “In all generation or revolution, antiquity or modern, among Christians or non-Christians, rich or poor; the value of a name is constant—always directly and inversely proportional to the content of character.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, You have put your name upon me, which I bear before the world. Please help me live worthy of that name so that who I am, what I do and what I say, or refuse to do or say, shall be living reflection of who You are,, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D

The Darling Bishop (DaBishop)
