Where are the Moral Heroes of Zion?

Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, May 2, 2020

Today’s Text: Daniel 1:1-21

Key Verse: Daniel 1:8 (ESV): But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself.

Daniel was such an unusual captive Jewish youth. You can take his freedom from him, but not his faith. Babylon and all it represents and everything that represents it always seeks to make a Chaldean out of you. Nabopolassar had defeated the Assyrians with the help of the Medes and brought Babylonia into prominence, making it the then known world super power, and seeking to convert every living youth into the Semitic spirit — the Chaldean language, philosophy, culture and devotion.

Like us, Daniel loved good foods. He was served classic and royal food that are already dedicated to Semitic spirits and Chaldean gods, therefore he made an heroic determination to reject them so as not to be inducted into Babylonian spirit or spiritism.

In some measures, the same thing has been done by cultures which have built up a world-wide dominion. Whether it is the Byzantine, Greek hellenism, European imperialism, German totalitarianism, Soviet Communism, or American social liberalism; they all try to change our names, manners and minds; but God needs us to be today’s moral heroes of Zion, his male and female Daniels, who shall be resolved not to defile themselves.

Quote for the Day: "Yielding to sensual influences, and lapsing into environmental permissiveness are parameters of a spiritual pliable.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please equip me with strength and the courage to stand up for you as I face challenges of life. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
