Who are you Lord?!

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, January 25, 2022

Today’s Text: Acts 9:1-9

Key Verse: Acts 9:4 (ESV): “And falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?””

From generation to generation, people who have encountered God have come up with sincere questions about who God is. Knowing God and understanding His ways do not come by books and efforts. In the wilderness of Midian, at the back side of Horeb, Moses asked this question in an indirect way: “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” (Exodus 3:13) In other words, “who are you Lord!” Jacob needed this clarification. Gideon needed to verify. And Peter said, “If it is you, Lord; tell me to come!” In its original construct, his was: if you are Lord, you can cause me to walk on the water.

Just before his conversion, Apostle Paul, on the road to Damascus, asked this direct question: "Who are you Lord?" in all desperation. And as the Bible says; “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” And because Jesus said, “everyone who seeks finds;” He answered through a voice from heaven, saying: "I am Jesus, whom you persecute." As Jews, both the questioner and Jesus understood the question and the answer quite well. The title, “Lord” is rendered “Jehovah” in the Septuagint, the Greek text, and in Hebrew—only Jesus lay claim to this title. He described Himself as Lord in Matthew 7:21: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven...” In Mark 5:19, He said, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much THE LORD has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” And I n John 13:13, He said: “You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. Are you seeking to know this truth? Are you asking sincere question about who Jesus is? Today, we are all blessed that whoever seeks the Lord and thirsts after His truth will find Him.

Quote for the Day: “Since Jesus is coeternally same as God, and creator of all things; He must also be the Savior, Master and Lord of every life.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to know you more deeply. Help me Lord, this day, and always to know who you are , and see how you are at work in all my circumstances — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
